 1. The enemy, effectively in their previous foirmations, continues to show stiff reistance to our counter-attacking units and, in individual parts of the front are close to breaking through to the r. VOLGA.

 2. The army continues its task of destroying the enemy who have broken though into the city.

  I ORDER:

 1. 23rd Tank Corps - with  forces of the 9th Mot. Rifle Brigade - firmly reinforce the line /esp/ garden /0.5 km NE of Hill 126.3, kurgan and hill plus 0.8km and further south - interdict the road from GUMRAK-STALINGRAD. The task: protect the attacking group of the army from enemy assault from the side GORODISHCHE-GUMRAK. Be prepared, on a special order, to seize the settlement /1 km NW of saray/. To reliably ensure

connections to the right and especially to the left and not to allow any gap between units to appear.

 2. 137th Tank Br.-  continue to fulfill Army Combat Order No 151 and at 12.00 20.9.42 take the region of saray hill minus 2.5 graveyard /0.5 km south of hill 112.5/which should then be firmly reinforced.

 3. 95th Rifle Div. effectively 90th & 161st Rifle Reg., at 12.00 20.9 fulfil Army Combat Order No.151 and take the region of the dairy farm,  /esp./ hill 20.7, r.TSARITSA.

   4. 13th Gd. Rifle Div. Unite all parts of the division, effectively destroying the enemy in the central parts of the city.

 5. 112th Rifle Div. advancee with the task: go to the railway bridge /2km south of hill 102.0 - and with your fire assist the advance of units of the 13th Gd. Rifle div.

 6. GOROKHOV's group, 10th NKVD Rifle Div.....

  The enemy, for the duration of the day, repeatedly attacked our infantry units and used intense artillery/mortar fire.

 Enemy aviation in groups of 3-5 planes, incessantly bombed our combat forces, especially on hill 102.0 and the crossings.
 
 The army held occupied positions and parts of it forces continued counterattacks.

 At 7.00 the army continued the attack started on 19.9.42. The area of the advance of 124th & 149th rifle

Br. established on the NW slope of hill 135.4, 15 enemy tanks conducted a firefight.

 9th Mot. Rifle Br. having completed their task - reinforced their achieved lines. In the gap that appeared between the 9th Mot. Rifle Br and the 137th tank Br. on the boundary of /esp/ + 0.8, val 300m E. of saray from the front to the SW, was advanced the 269th NKVD regiment.

 137th Tank Br., 95th Rifle Div. (2 Rifle Reg.) & 39th Gd. Rifle Reg. operated on the previuos boundary, having completed the task of counterattacking given on 19.9. 

 In front of the 112th Rifle division, battalions of the enmy infantry with 30 tanks were arrayed in combat formation. The division engaged in a firefight with them.

 13th Gd. Rifle Div. /city centre/ at 6.30 was attacked by enemy forces of 2 battalions - the attack was repulsed.

 92nd Rifle Br. in the area of the railway bridge was attacked by an enemy infantry regiment - the attack was repulsed. The situation in the region of the bridge is tense.

 272nd Reg. completed the task-attacking along the railway in the direction of the railway bridge.

 92nd Rifle Br. on its right flank advanced along the right bank of the r.TSARITSA and railway bridge with the task of liquidating enemy forces in the region of the bridge.

 By 14.00 the 272nd Rifle Reg. and right flank of the 92nd Rifle Br., finding itself under strong enemy small-arms fire, slowly moved forwards.

 35th Gd. Rifle Div. with the remanants of the 131st Rifle Div. and 10th Rifle Br. gave up its boundary to the 92nd Rifle Br. and retired to the 2nd echelon.

 87th Rifle Div. & 315th Rifle Div.-/Divisional HQs/ retired to the left bank of the Volga for re-equpping.
 87th Rifle Div. transferred its personnel to the 6th Gd. Tank Br.

.... 92nd Rifle Br. Complete soon the task given in order 151 of the Army HQ.

 7. Those arriving in my reserves in the night of 20.9 241 Rifle Reg. to add (?) to my reserve which is to engage and prepare for the defence of the region of hill 102.0, DOLGIY ravine, the railway LOOP , 1.5 km NE of hill 102.0, settlement 1 km N of hill 102.0 preparing for a counterattack in whichever direction the situation may demand.

 8. The boundary for all units - as before, agreed in Combat Order No 151.

 9. Artillery - task a/ support the attack of the 95th Rifle Div. suppress the mortar battery in the region of the ravines/ 1.5 km S and SW of Hill 102.0/

 b/ suppress the enemy battery in the region of hill 112.5 and MTS
 Not to allow the enemy to bring up reserves in the region of the forest south of the Hosp. and LESOPOSADOCHNAYA (forest plantation)
 Prevent the buildup of enemy forces in the ravines in the region of Aviagorodka and hill 112.5

 10. Infantry attacks begin at 7.00 20.9.42

 11. Combat reports are to be sent every 2 hours.

Army Command orders:

 1. All troops of the army - from morning 21.9.42 continue the fulfillment of you combat tasks, given in Army Orders No 151, 152.

 2. 241st Rifle reg. transfer from army reserves and pass under the command of 95th Rifle Div.

 3. the arriving 1043 Rifle reg., 284th Rifle Div. are to concentrate in the region of the southern outskirts of KRASNIY OKTYABR, railway LOOP/1.5km east of hill 102.0/, /esp/ pier KRASNIY OKTYABR - in the army reserves.

 4. 137th Tank Br. to be included in the 23rd Tank Corps.
