* To commander of 149th reserve regiment – on the night of 1.9 to 2.9 move to the area of the Northern part of Krasnaya Sloboda /on the left bank of Volga river/ with the task: occupy central crossing over river Volga and organise its defense. The order of crossing for the regiment’s squads is being established by a special decree of Army HQ.

During the night Army on the Northern part of the front continued defending occupied boundaries. In the Central part, according to the decision of Command, withdrawal to new borders was begun. In the sector of kolhoz NOVAYA NADEZHDA, Hill 120.0 up to an infantry division – presumably the 295th infantry division, advanced with two regiments reaching the line west of the slopes of Hill 143.3, Hill 144.1. In sector 144.1, GONCHARA up to an infantry division /presumably the 76th infantry division/ advanced. At 14.00 up to a regiment of enemy infantry with 50 tanks advanced from SW to GUMRAK. Up to a regiment of enemy infantry, with the support of 30-40 tanks, took control of OPYTNAYA STANTSIYA, YEZHOVKA. Up to 30 enemy tanks at 14.00 entered from South PESCHANAYA gully /to the South of PESCHANKA/. Enemy aviation in groups of 10-15 planes is continuously harrassing combat lines of infantry and artillery in the frontline’s central and south sectors. * According to HQ Stalingrad Front's order No 00113 of 2.9.42 – the 1st Guards Army's central units at 10.30 2.9.42 went on the offensive from the front at KUZMICHI, Hill 139.7 with the task: destroy the enemy in the area of the sovkhoz OPYTNOE POLE, RAZD. (?) DREVNIY VAL, Hill 143.1, Hill 139.7 and link with units of the 2nd and 23rd Tank Corps, which are defending STALINGRAD on boundary Hill 147.6 (?), gully GRYAZNAYA. Troops of North Combat Sector of STALINGRAD’s defense strongly held their boundary.

COMBAT ORDER No 114. 62 ARMY HQ. 2.9.42. The enemy broke through the frontline at TSYBENKO, IVANOVKA and, trying to develop success in N and NE directions, rushed to take the city of STALINGRAD. On right – 4th Tank Army executes earlier given task.
62nd Army, substantially defending boundary RYNOK, Hill 144.2, Hill 143.6, kolkhoz NOVAYA NADEZHDA, GONCHARA, ALEKSEEVKA, has the task: prevent the enemy from breaking through to STALINGRAD and with powerful counterattacks in the zone PREDPOL'YA destroy and eliminate his manpower and vehicles.
