1. The enemy with two tank, one motorized and three infantry divisions with air support, in the morning of 1.9.42 breached the front in the sector of Rakitino, Varvarovka. By the end of the day they gained control over the area of junc. BaSsargino, Hill 125.8, Hill 135.1, Peschanaya gully, Vorovatka gully.
2. In the morning of 2.9 we can expect an enemy attack from Junc. Bassargino to the North and along the railroad to the East.  20th Mot. Rifle Br - /esp/ OTF (goods farm), cultural stan (?) at Hill 135.1, /esp/ VerKhnaya Elshanka
131st Rifle Div. – Peschanka, Staro-Dubovka, Peschanka settlement.
23rd Tank Corps – make reconnaissance for defense in the area of the central part of Stalingrad city between Hill 102.0 and river TSARITSA.
2nd Tank Corps prepare the area of Barrikady for defense.
35th Gd Rifle Div - /esp/ brick pier (?), /South/, which is 3 km to the East of pier, /esp/ Minino’s suburbs, /esp/ water-tower /Stalingrad city/.
87th Rifle division – area of Krasny Oktyabr settlement /Stalingrad city/.
* To commander of 149th reserve regiment – on the night of 1.9 to 2.9 move to the area of the Northern part of Krasnaya Sloboda /on the left bank of Volga river/ with the task: occupy central crossing over river Volga and organise its defense. The order of crossing for the regiment’s squads is being established by a special decree of Army HQ.

During the night Army on the Northern part of the front continued defending occupied boundaries. In the Central part, according to the decision of Command, withdrawal to new borders was begun. In the Southern part of the front troops (?) engaged in fierce combat against enemy infantry and tanks. During the day there was defensive combat on the Northern part of the front, regrouping of forces on the central part of the front, engaging in fierce combat with the attacking enemy.
The enemy, with forces up to 4 infantry divisions and a tank division, is developing success in the northern direction. His front mobile units reached ...LONOVAYA gully . At 13.00 there were signs of movement of motorized infantry and tank columns in an eastern direction North of the railway line in the area of junc. BASSARGINO and west.

4. 62nd Army, leaving strong covering detachments on old boundary, by 5.00 2.9.42 to withdraw the troops of the center and left wing to new prepared defensive boundary with front border along the line: RYNOK, Hill 141.2, Hill 143.6, kolkhoz NOVAYA NADEZHDA, GONCHARA, railroad in the area of STF (pig farm), ALEKSEEVKA, PESCHANKA. For defense battalion areas No 78, 96, 80, 81, 82, 69, 64, 84, 87, 88 and 89 must be used. Withdraw to reserve not less than two Rifle divisions and one Tank Br. One Rifle Division must be in the area of OPYTNAYA STANTSIYA, the other Rifle division with the tank brigade – in the area of POLYAKOVKA, YEZHOVKA, VERKHNAYA YELSHANKA. Task: prevent enemy tanks and infantry from breaking through to STALINGRAD city, eliminating him on the approaches to the frontline. Special attention must be paid to direction VOROPONOVO, STALINGRAD. For divisions’ withdrawal to new boundary appoint HQ commanders. Army HQ will be in the area of the Hospital 7,4 km NE of OPYTNAYA STANTSIYA. Discretional (?) line to the left – KUPOROSNOE, STARIY ROGACHIK, KOLPACHKI. Responsibility for meeting-point between the 62nd and 64th Armies lies with the Commander of the 64th army.
For the creation of an insurmountable defense on said boundary, - all commanding staff must perfectly...  ....is bombing areas of TALOVOY, YEZHOVKA, KRUTEN’KIY In the morning of 3.09 the eenmy started advancing. In the sector of kolhoz NOVAYA NADEZHDA, Hill 120.0 up to an infantry division – presumably the 295th infantry division, advanced with two regiments reaching the line west of the slopes of Hill 143.3, Hill 144.1. In sector 144.1, GONCHARA up to an infantry division /presumably the 76th infantry division/ advanced. At 14.00 up to a regiment of enemy infantry with 50 tanks advanced from SW to GUMRAK. Up to a regiment of enemy infantry, with the support of 30-40 tanks, took control of OPYTNAYA STANTSIYA, YEZHOVKA. Up to 30 enemy tanks at 14.00 entered from South PESCHANAYA gully /to the South of PESCHANKA/. Enemy aviation in groups of 10-15 planes is continuously harrassing combat lines of infantry and artillery in the frontline’s central and south sectors. * According to HQ Stalingrad Front's order No 00113 of 2.9.42 – the 1st Guards Army's central units at 10.30 2.9.42 went on the offensive from the front at KUZMICHI, Hill 139.7 with the task: destroy the enemy in the area of the sovkhoz OPYTNOE POLE, RAZD. (?) DREVNIY VAL, Hill 143.1, Hill 139.7 and link with units of the 2nd and 23rd Tank Corps, which are defending STALINGRAD on boundary Hill 147.6 (?), gully GRYAZNAYA. Troops of North Combat Sector of STALINGRAD’s defense strongly held their boundary.
...understand in their zone all fire systems and all systems of anti-tank boundary, obstacles and blocks. Formations’ and units’ commanders must know well all defense systems of their and neighbouring zones including defense boundaries in the outskirts and inside of the city, which are presently being held by the 10th NKVD division. Tanks must be dug in in defencwe, but always ready to manoeuvre for counter-attacks. Take all measures for the fastest recovery of material equipment. All commanders and soldiers must remember, that the Motherland assigns the most important mission – defend the city of STALIN. NOT ONE STEP BACK FROM HOLDING POSITIONS. THE CITY OF STALIN WON’T BE GIVEN TO THE ENEMY.
COMBAT ORDER No 114. 62 ARMY HQ. 2.9.42. The enemy broke through the frontline at TSYBENKO, IVANOVKA and, trying to develop success in N and NE directions, rushed to take the city of STALINGRAD. On right – 4th Tank Army executes earlier given task.
62nd Army, substantially defending boundary RYNOK, Hill 144.2, Hill 143.6, kolkhoz NOVAYA NADEZHDA, GONCHARA, ALEKSEEVKA, has the task: prevent the enemy from breaking through to STALINGRAD and with powerful counterattacks in the zone PREDPOL'YA destroy and eliminate his manpower and vehicles.
